नेपालको निजी क्षेत्रको छाता संस्था, नेपाल उद्योग वाणिज्य महासंघले अर्थशास्त्री तथा निजी क्षेत्र विकास विज्ञ डा. गोपालप्रसाद तिवारीलाई महानिर्देशक पदमा नियुक्त गरेको छ ।
महासंघका अध्यक्ष अञ्जन श्रेष्ठले सचिवालयमा बुधबार उहाँलाई २०८३ असोज १ गते देखि लागु हुनगरि नियुक्त पत्र प्रदान गर्नु भएको थियो । डा. तिवारीलाई स्वागत गर्दै अध्यक्ष श्रेष्ठले डा. तिवारीको बहुपक्षीय विश्वसनीयता, प्राज्ञिक दक्षता र निजी क्षेत्रको वकालतसम्बन्धी व्यावहारिक अनुभव एक महत्त्वपूर्ण मोडमा महासंघमा जोडिएको बताउनुभयो । “नेपालको आर्थिक संरचनामा डा. तिवारीको गहिरो पकड, बृहत् अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय अनुभव र सरोकारवालाहरूको विश्वासले महासंघको संस्थागत छविलाई थप उचाइमा पु¥याउनेछ । हाम्रो नीतिगत पैरवीलाई अझ प्रभावकारी बनाउन, उच्च प्रभावकारी सुधारका कार्यसूचीहरू कार्यान्वयन गर्न र नेपाली उद्यमहरूका लागि गतिशील तथा विश्वव्यापी रूपमा प्रतिस्पर्धी वातावरण निर्माण गर्न उनको नेतृत्व महत्वपूर्ण साबित हुनेछ । अध्यष श्रेष्ठले भन्नुभयो ।
यो नियुक्तिसँगै महासंघमा डा. तिवारीको पुनरागमन भएको छ । यसअघि उहाँले सन् २०१८ देखि २०१९ सम्म महासंघको कार्यवाहक महानिर्देशकका रूपमा सचिवालयको नेतृत्व सम्हाल्नु भएको थियो । बृहत् आर्थिक नीति, लगानी सुधार तथा सार्वजनिक–निजी साझेदारी (पीपीपी) को क्षेत्रमा २५ वर्षभन्दा लामो विशिष्ट अनुभवसहित उहाँ महानिदेैशका जिम्मेवारीमा आउनु भएको हो ।
डा. तिवारीको व्यावसायिक यात्रा प्रमुख बहुपक्षीय संस्थाहरू तथा अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय दातृ निकायहरूसँग समेत जोडिएको छ । उहाँले अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय वित्त निगम (आइएफसी) ÷विश्व बैंक समूह, एसियाली विकास बैंक (एडीबी), संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघीय विकास कार्यक्रम (युएनडीपी), अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय श्रम संगठन (आइएलओ) तथा पछिल्लो समय यूएसएडको ‘तयार नेपाल’ परियोजनामा निजी क्षेत्र समन्वय निर्देशकको रूपमा कार्यकारी तथा सल्लाहकारको भूमिका निर्वाह गरिसक्नु भएको छ ।
नेपालको वित्तीय तथा व्यावसायिक क्षेत्रमा उहाँको संस्थागत संलग्नता उल्लेख्य छ । डा. तिवारीले यसअघि बैंक तथा वित्तीय संस्था परिसंघ नेपाल (सीबीफिन) को महानिर्देशक, उद्योग, वाणिज्य तथा आपूर्ति मन्त्रालयमा वरिष्ठ प्राविधिक विज्ञ र नेपाल–जर्मन उद्योग वाणिज्य संघमा रणनीतिक सल्लाहकारका रूपमा काम गरिसक्नु भएको छ ।
संस्थागत जिम्मेवारीका अतिरिक्त, उहाँ नेपाल आर्थिक संघका मानार्थ महासचिव, नेपाल आर्थिक पत्रकार समाज (सेजोन) का पूर्व अध्यक्ष, नर्वेस्थित फिल. डा. जान–यू. सान्डल इन्स्टिच्युटका सिनियर रिसर्च फेलो तथा त्रिभुवन विश्वविद्यालय (कीर्तिपुर) अन्तर्गत सार्वजनिक नीति, सुशासन र भ्रष्टाचार विरोधी अध्ययन विभागका प्राध्यापक समेत हुनुहन्छ । आफ्नो करियरको प्रारम्भिक चरणमा उहाँले कान्तिपुर मिडिया ग्रुप, द हिमालयन टाइम्स र स्पेस टाइम टुडे जस्ता प्रमुख राष्ट्रिय दैनिकहरूमा वरिष्ठ आर्थिक पत्रकारका रूपमा समेत सेवा गरिसक्नु भएको छ ।
नेपालमा संरचनागत सार्वजनिक–निजी संवाद (पीपीडी) का मुख्य योजनाकार मानिने डा. तिवारीले आइएफसी अन्तर्गत उच्चस्तरीय ‘नेपाल बिजनेस फोरम’को वर्षौंसम्म सचिवालय व्यवस्थापन गर्नु भएके थियो । साथै, उहाँले विदेशी लगानी तथा प्रविधि हस्तान्तरण ऐन र औद्योगिक व्यवसाय ऐन जस्ता महत्त्वपूर्ण आर्थिक तथा व्यावसायिक कानुनहरूको तर्जुमामा सक्रिय प्राविधिक भूमिका निर्वाह गर्नु भएको छ । निजी क्षेत्रको व्यावसायिक वातावरण सुधार विषयमा अर्थशास्त्रमा विद्यावारिधि गर्नु भएका डा. तिवारीका व्यापार कूटनीति र औद्योगिक विकाससम्बन्धी विभिन्न अनुसन्धानमूलक पुस्तकहरू समेत प्रकाशित छन् । जसमा ’आत्मनिर्भर अर्थतन्त्र र निर्यात प्रवद्र्धनका सम्भावित क्षेत्रहरू’ (२०२३) समेत समावेश छ ।
FNCCI appoints Dr. Tiwari as Director General
The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), the umbrella organization driving Nepal’s private sector, has appointed eminent economist and development strategist Dr. Gopal Prasad Tiwari as its Director General, effective September 17, 2026.
Welcoming the appointment, FNCCI President Anjan Shrestha noted that Dr. Tiwari's rare blend of multilateral credibility, academic rigor, and hands-on private-sector advocacy comes at a pivotal juncture: "Dr. Tiwari’s deep command of Nepal’s economic framework, paired with his extensive global exposure and stakeholder trust, will elevate FNCCI’s institutional stature. His leadership will be instrumental in sharpening our policy advocacy, executing high-impact reform agendas, and building a more dynamic, globally competitive landscape for Nepali enterprises."
The appointment marks a high-profile return for Dr. Tiwari, who previously led the FNCCI Secretariat as Officiating Director General between 2018 and 2019. He steps into the role with a distinguished 25-year track record navigating the intersection of macroeconomic policy, investment reform, and public-private synergy.
Dr. Tiwari’s multi-decade career spans executive and advisory roles across leading multilateral institutions and donor agencies, including the International Finance Corporation (IFC) / World Bank Group, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), UNDP, ILO, and most recently as Director of Private Sector Integration for the USAID Tayar Nepal Project.
His institutional footprint across Nepal's financial and commercial landscape is substantial. Dr. Tiwari formerly served as Director General of the Confederation of Banks and Financial Institutions Nepal (CBFIN), Senior Technical Expert at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies (MoICS), and Strategic Advisor to the Nepal-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NGCCI). Beyond the boardroom, he serves as Honorary Secretary General of the Nepal Economic Association, Senior Research Fellow at Norway's Fil. Dr. Jan-U. Sandal Institute, and faculty member at Tribhuvan University’s Department of Public Policy, Governance, and Anti-Corruption Studies. Early in his career, he also spent formative years as a senior economic journalist with leading national dailies, including Kantipur Media Group, The Himalayan Times, and Space Time Today.
A central architect of structured Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) in Nepal, Dr. Tiwari spent years managing the apex-level Nepal Business Forum (NBF) under the IFC and helped shape critical economic legislation, notably the Foreign Investment and Technology Transfer Act (FITTA) and the Industrial Enterprises Act (IEA).
Holding a Ph.D. in Economics centered on private-sector competitiveness, he has authored several influential works on trade diplomacy and industrial development, including Self-reliant Economy and Potential Sectors for Export Promotion (2023).
